Date Responded 29 May 2018

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. How many times your force has used 'spit hoods' during arrests during the following financial years:

a) 2013/14

b) 2014/15

c) 2015/16

d) 2016/17

e) 2017/18 to date

2. Please provide separate breakdowns by age, gender and ethnicity of the arrested persons dressed in spit hoods (i.e. tables showing the numbers by age, by gender and by ethnicity, separately)

3. Please provide the age and gender of the youngest person to have a spit hood used on them during the five years mentioned above.

In Response:

This information has been asked previously and the responses are published on the Northumbria Police Disclosure Log.   I can confirm that the information provided then is still relevant – that the information requested is not held by Northumbria Police as we do not use spit hoods.
