Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. From March 23 2020 to May 26 2020, how many fines were issued by your force to members of the public for breaking travel restrictions due to the coronavirus lockdown measures?
  2. Of those fined, how many claimed that the reason they were travelling was because of issues relating to childcare?

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Fixed Penalty Unit of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held, in part, by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

  1. 275 fines have been issued within the timescales above.
  2. Of those fined, no persons provided issues relating to childcare as a reasonable excuse for contravening Covid-19 enforcement regulations.
