Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. A yearly breakdown from 1st January 2015 to 31st December 2019 of the number of times police have attended an ‘unauthorised encampment’.
  2. A yearly breakdown from 1st January 2015 to 31st December 2019 of the number of times police have used section 61 of Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to direct travellers to leave an ‘unauthorised encampment’.
  3. A yearly breakdown from 1st January 2015 to 31st December 2019 of the number of times police have used section 62 of Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 to evict travellers from an ‘unauthorised encampment’.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police. 

I can confirm that the information you have requested is not held by Northumbria Police.

With regards to all points of your request searches gleaned that during the time period specified, there have been no such instances.

This information has been provided via a search of the following Home Office Codes: 

195/64    Unauthorised camping in designated areas

125/22    Failing to leave land as directed or returning as a trespasser within three months

125/65    Failure to leave relevant land as soon as soon as reasonably practicable or enters any land in area of relevant local authority as a trespasser before end of relevant period with the intention of residing there
