Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

The projected costs of maintenance of the police estate over the next decade, broken down with estimate costs where possible. 

In Response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. 

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Finance Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police. 

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows. 

Northumbria Police undertakes building condition surveys on a 5 year cycle in accordance with National Police Estate Group guidance. These surveys give a 10 year indicator of maintenance liabilities of the Police & Crime Commissioner’s estate.

The last condition survey undertaken in 2017/18 revealed the following forecast maintenance liabilities based on maintaining the estate in a satisfactory condition. It is detailed for each of the first 5 years and forecasted for the remaining period of the survey.

As part of the annual review of the Estate Strategy the Estates manager reviews the usage and maintenance requirements in line the current force operating model. This feeds into the Medium Term Forecast Strategy (MTFS).The MTFS covers a period of four years but is reviewed annually to reflect the dynamic nature of both policing and changes in funding.

Maintenance liabilities are thus defrayed by funding forecasted in the MTFS. Within the latest MTFS, annual revenue cost of repairs for the years 2018/19 to 2021/22 is £1,202,000,
