Date Responded 30 July 2019

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

As of July 4th 2019, how many registered sex offenders were there in your forces area whose whereabouts was unknown to your force?

I understand the information changes on a daily basis and isn’t always recorded as an individual stat for each day of the year, so I have asked therefore for the number midway through the duration for responding to my request (10 working days).

If you are unable to provide the figure for that day specifically, please work to provide a figure for the day as close to July 4th as possible and disclose this date in your answer.

In Response:

As of 9 July 2019 there were a total of 13 Registered Sex Offender’s whose whereabouts are unknown.

It is important to reiterate that those offenders whose whereabouts are unknown, are deemed to be wanted.  Of the 13 RSO’s who are all are shown as wanted for offences, offender notifications are made on both local and national systems, along with enquiries with those agencies that may hold information to assist in the enquiry.  Each enquiry is regularly reviewed and active enquiries continue to be made to locate those who are classified as wanted.
