Date Responded 10 October 2018

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Do Northumbria Police analyse the effectiveness of ANPR cameras by any form of analysis of total vehicles captured versus vehicles that are involved in a crime or flagged any way?

In Response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Crime Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is not held by Northumbria Police. The Force does not analyse the effectiveness of ANPR cameras on the basis of number of reads versus vehicles identified as being involved in crime or flagged, as this is not a statistic we would use.  Some of the cameras obtain high volumes of reads, the majority of which are never accessed and will be deleted in accordance with national guidance without ever having been viewed.
