Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1. “I would like to know how Northumbria Police handle dashcam/video footage sent go them. Is their a dedicated department that reviews footage?

2. Also I would like to know how many videos are submitted annually to Northumbria Police. Preferably I would like year by year data. E.g 2017 : 1452 videos submitted, 2018 : 1876 videos submitted. For the period 2017-2021.”

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Communications Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

1. Videos are submitted to Northumbria Police using the Dashcam Portal on the Force Internet, this footage is then reviewed by officers who work within the Primary Investigation Centre who establish if there is sufficient evidence to support a prosecution for road traffic offences. All officers are suitably trained in both investigative skills and giving evidence.
