Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1) How many drink driving arrests were made by your police force between 1st March 2019 & 31st August 2019, broken down by

a) month

b) how many of those arrested were aged 17-30 years old and how many were aged 31 years or older

2) How many drug driving arrests were made by your police force between 1st March 2019 & 31st August 2019, broken down by

a) month

b) how many of those arrested were aged 17-30 years old and how many were aged 31 years or older

3) How many drink driving arrests were made by your police force between 1st March 2020 & 31st August 2020, broken down by

a) month

b) how many of those arrested were aged 17-30 years old and how many were aged 31 years or older

4) How many drug driving arrests were made by your police force between 1st March 2020 & 31st August 2020, broken down by month?

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The following offences were searched for using the date range supplied.

Driving or attempting to drive a mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs (only to be used where it is unclear whether it is drink or drugs)

Driving or attempting to drive a motor vehicle while having a breath, blood or urine alcohol concentration in excess of the prescribed limit

Driving or attempting to drive a motor vehicle and failing to without reasonable excuse provide a specimen for a laboratory test or2 specimens for analysis of breath

Being in charge of mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs (only to be used where it is unclear whether it is drink or drugs)

In charge of a motor vehicle while having a breath, blood or urine alcohol concentration in excess of the prescribed limit

In charge of a motor vehicle and failing without reasonable excuse to provide a specimen for a laboratory test or two specimens for analysis of breath

Failing without reasonable excuse to provide a specimen of breath for a preliminary test

Failing to allow specimen of blood to be subjected to laboratory test

Driving or attempting to drive a mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs - Drink

Driving or attempting to drive a mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs - Drugs

Being in charge of mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs - Drink

Being in charge of mechanically propelled vehicle whilst unfit to drive through drink or drugs - Drugs

Drive MV proportion of controlled drug above limit

Aid and abet drive MV with prop controlled drug over limit

In charge MV with prop of spec drug over spec limit

Attempt to drive MV with prop of spec controlled drug over limit

Also included offences where it is unclear whether the offence was due to drink or drugs.

You will also note that the totals in question 4 and the additional information do not match, this is because one of the arrested persons was under the age of 17.
