Date Responded 21 March 2022

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Could you please provide information in relation to the number of reported accidents involving cars, cycles and pedestrians on Queen Victoria Road, Newcastle upon Tyne.

In Response:

As the information you have requested is accessible by other means I have not provided you with a copy of the information and will rely on Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  You should therefore consider this a refusal for your request.

I have provided an explanation to this exemption below.

Section 21 (1) - Information accessible by other means

Information which is reasonably accessible to the applicant is exempt information.

The North East Regional Road Safety Resource’s website features an interactive casualty map of the North East, on which are plotted all road user casualties from the last five years. This map can be accessed through the following link:  http://www.tinyurl.com/necasualtydashboard and as it does not contain any data that is not already available through other sources, it has been made freely available to the public.

Full details about the map and the data used in it are given on the website, but in brief the interactive casualty map will allow you to select to display casualties by severity and road user type over a map of the North East. Furthermore, once you have displayed the desired casualties, you can click on any of the points and a brief summary of the collision, casualty and vehicle details is displayed.

If this does not answer your query the Tyne and Wear Traffic and Accident Data Unit (TADU) carry out the statistical function on behalf of Northumbria Police and they may be able to assist you further. In order to aid and assist you, we have provided contact details below:-

Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.

In particular, you must not re-use this information for any commercial purpose.
