RTC's on North Walbottle Road - 289/20

Date Responded 19 February 2020

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

I would like a FOI on how many accidents there have been on North Walbottle Road, from Stamfordham Road to Hexham Road, from 2000-2020? This is in the Newcastle upon Tyne NE5 area.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Collision Records Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held, in part, by Northumbria Police, however will not be provided for the following reason.

As the information you have requested above is accessible by other means I have not provided you with a copy of the information and will rely on Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. You should therefore consider this a refusal for your request.

I have provided an explanation to this exemption below.

Section 21 (1) - Information accessible by other means

Information which is reasonably accessible to the applicant is exempt information.

The information you have requested is freely available via The North East Regional Road Safety Resource’s website.  The website features an interactive casualty map of the North East, on which are plotted all road user casualties from the last five years.

The map can be accessed through the following link (however please note that this must be opened via firefox or google chrome): http://www.tinyurl.com/necasualtydashboard.

We do not held records of this information going back 10 years and would only be able to provide any data held to a specific location – not a road.  Therefore, we hope that you will find the information available via the above mentioned website sufficient for your requirements.

Full details about the map and the data used in it are given on the website, but in brief the interactive casualty map will allow you to select to display casualties by severity and road user type over a map of the North East. Furthermore, once you have displayed the desired casualties, you can click on any of the points and a brief summary of the collision, casualty and vehicle details is displayed.
