Vehicles Over 40 Years Old Stopped For Un-Roadworthiness - 096/20

Date Responded 18 February 2020

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

  1. The number of drivers of cars registered before 1980 stopped by Police in 2019 for un-roadworthiness.
  2. Reasons and numbers of cars per reason for stopping drivers.

In Response:

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Fixed Penalty Unit of Northumbria Police, this being as the most obvious place to look for this information.  Any other searches would have meant that this request would have exceed the permitted 18 hours and therefore would have been refused under Section 12.

Searches were carried out on recording systems used by the Fixed Penalty Unit  under the offence code ‘Use vehicle in dangerous condition’.  None of the returns from these searches were for vehicles which were registered prior to 1980. We therefore hold no information relative to your submission.
