Joint equality objectives

How Northumbria Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner understand diversity, equality and inclusion.

Both our Chief Constable and our Police and Crime Commissioner are passionate that diversity, equality and inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at Northumbria Police.  Through strong partnership working, our commitment from our staff and volunteers and working together with local communities ensures that diversity, equality and inclusion is very much part of ‘who we are’ and ‘what we do’.

We are proud of our achievements and the progress we have made.  However we continue to evolve and adapt to future challenges.  With challenge brings opportunity and our joint objectives are designed to ensure diversity, equality and inclusion runs through everything we do.

It is our commitment to our region that we will champion equality for all.

Our activity is focussed in three key areas, Our Workforce, Our Communities and Our Partnerships.  Through measured and focussed activity, our overall strategy will work towards eliminating discrimination, and promoting equality of opportunity irrespective of protected characteristics including; age, disability, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and gender reassignment, gender identity or expression.

Our joint Diversity and Equality Annual Monitoring Report highlights our direction of travel from the progress made through 2019 into the objectives that will drive our activity for 2020.  The next report will be published in early 2021.
