Northumbria Police Health and Wellbeing Support Association (HWSA)

The Association was set up in 2018 and exists to support police officers, staff and volunteers. We are committed to focusing positively on well being. Effective engagement with our workforce is critical to sustaining the capability of the workforce; which will in turn benefits the diverse communities we police. Workplace health and well-being has risen sharply within the public policy agenda over the past decade. There is growing recognition of the positive link between employee wellbeing and long –term organisation health. There is also now a much broader understanding of holistic health and wellbeing approaches, however we believe there is still scope for wider and more integrated wellbeing initiatives in the workplace.

Chaplaincy

Northumbria Police has a Chaplaincy Service which acts as an independent resource for police officers, staff and volunteers. The Service is confidential and is available to employees regardless of any or no faith. Chaplains can offer a listening ear for professional or personal problems and are available with support during times of crisis. They offer guidance in moral and religious matters and act as a bridge between police and communities.
