Santa paws! Officers help save four-month-old kitten from a cold and lonely Christmas!

Officers in Newcastle have rescued a kitten that was trying to crawl into their police car exhaust to stay warm.

Initially named ‘Penny the police cat’ by the officers, and after a fair amount of cooing and petting, the kitten was then taken to a local vets who quickly informed the officers that ‘Penny’ was in fact a ‘Percy’.

Percy was given a clean bill of health and is now ‘feline fine’ at Claremont Road Cat and Dog Shelter where he will be rehomed after Christmas.

PC Danielle Curry was one of those to find the stranded kitten, she said: “We could hear a faint ‘meowing’ and upon further investigation found this little kitten round the back of one of the patrol cars.

“Everyone was smitten with Percy back at the station – he is absolutely adorable.

“Overall, it was a ‘purr-fect’ start to the shift!”

Merry Christmas to all our furry friends out there and a reminder to their human counterparts to ensure they are safe and warm!
