A specialist detection dog has been received ‘high’ praise after a night of sniffing out illegal drugs.
Dog of the Year nominee, PD Colin, has been rewarded with his favourite tennis ball and a kip by the fire after a busy night on shift.
On Monday evening, the six-and-half-year-old Labrador and his handler PC Will Driver were working the night shift with Northumbria Police.
They were called to attend two jobs where response officers required a specialist search dog.
Colin leapt in to action and the end of his night’s work had sniffed out a quantity of cash and large amounts of cannabis.
PC Driver said: “He is a great dog and has a fantastic character so it is never a surprise when he gets a good result.
“It was a busy night on shift and Colin was needed at two separate addresses but despite the late nights he never stopped smiling.
“He loves his job and in this instance he has been a huge help to the investigative team.
“I can give him all the treats in the world but all he is ever really interested in is getting his teeth into a tennis ball!”
Colin is one of three Northumbria Police dog’s nominated for Dog of the Year at the Force’s Pride in Policing awards.
