A murderer who took the life of his friend in a frenzied and savage attack has been jailed for 26 years.
Simon Bowman’s mutilated body was discovered inside his Jarrow home by emergency services on May 14 last year.
The 54-year-old father-of-two had been stabbed in the chest multiple times and had lost his fingers and toes during the brutal attack carried out by Christopher Graham - a man he believed was his close friend
And today (Friday) Graham, of Romney Avenue Washington was jailed at Newcastle Crown Court for life with a minimum of 26 years.
The 30-year-old was convicted of murder by a jury on December 18, 2019 after denying the ruthless killing of Mr Bowman.
Following the case Detective Sergeant Angus Grassie said: “This was a shocking and violent murder and I welcome today’s sentence.
“Graham is a dangerous offender and I’m pleased he is now behind bars for many years to come where he cannot pose a danger to anyone else.
“While we know no sentence can ever make up for what happened to Mr Bowman and the senseless loss of life his friends and family have had to come to terms with, but hopefully this will help them get the closure they deserve.
