Shortly before 2am this morning (Tuesday), police received a call reporting that a van had been stolen after a home on Brookland Terrace was broken into.
Officers were deployed and soon received another call reporting a van driver holding a bottle of whiskey nearby.
The vehicle was quickly identified as the stolen van from Brookland Terrace and police began searching the area.
This swiftly led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man and as the search continued a further two men, 30 and 20, were also arrested nearby.
Chief Inspector Kev Waring, from Northumbria Police, said: “This was great work by officers. Their quick thinking and response ensured the arrest of three suspects and recovery of a stolen van.
“Communities should be reassured that our officers will take swift and robust action against anyone partaking in any criminal activity.”
All three men arrested currently remain in police custody at this time.
