The new officers will now be deployed into each area of the Force to embark on the practical aspect of their training

Northumbria Police have celebrated the first class of 2022 who have successfully completed their initial 16-week learning phase.

The new officers were joined at a special graduation event held at The Grand Hotel, Gosforth, this week by Chief Constable Winton Keenen QPM.

Chief Constable Keenen commended the students on their outstanding efforts so far and thanked them for their decision to join the Force.

Superintendent Steve Wykes, who oversaw the training, was also on hand as students were cheered on by their friends and family who proudly watched them prepare for the next stage in their policing journey.

Following their learning phase, the up-and-coming PCs will be deployed into each area of the Force to embark on the practical aspect of their training, where they will work alongside experienced front-line officers.

Supt Wykes said: “It is always an incredibly proud moment when any new cohort of officers celebrate the completion of initial training.

“They have spent the last few months learning about a range of aspects of policing including officer safety, public order and law which will stand them in good stead for the next phase of their training.

“They have each shown great commitment to get to this stage – and I would like to thank them all for their dedication and professionalism.

“I’ve been in the Force for 18 years and know moments like this do stay with you throughout your course of duty, and it is crucially important to spend that time to rightly recognise their achievements to date.

“The new officers have all shown they have the necessary attributes required to be excellent police officers, and I wish them well for the next stage of their training.

“They will be out in the community from Monday and are all ready to do their bit in protecting the communities we serve, and helping to ensure the North East remains a safe place to live, work and visit.”
